Roadtec offers first zero-turn radius soil stabilizer
The SX-7 is an example of the latest machine control technology, yet it’s easy to use. Three different interconnected controllers are always in communication with each other. They make sure that all machine functions and systems – such as engine power, travel speed, cut depth, hydraulic systems and metering systems – are always working together in harmony in accordance with the job specs. Contractors can easily connect GPS systems for diagnostics and performance checks from remote locations. The operator station of the machine is located over the centreline of the cutter, letting the operator steer the machine precisely according to the position of the cutter drum. The operator can choose from which side to steer depending on the job because the console and seat swivel 180 degrees to either side of the machine and side-shift 62 inches (157cm). For operators who prefer to stand, the seat can easily be swung out of the way. All SX-7 controls are mounted within easy reach of the adjustable spring-suspension seat. A fully enclosed, climate-controlled cab is available. Front and back wheels are controlled with just the steering wheel and by setting the steering mode you want: co-ordinated, crab, front only, rear only, or ZTR (Zero Turn Radius) – an exclusive Roadtec feature (patent applied for) – where the turn radius is about 155 inches (394 cm). With 41,000 pounds of pull the SX-7 can push or pull big loads such as tankers or graders. An optional tow bar for front and/ or rear, including a fill hose carrier, is offered. The SX-7 soil stabilizer features a 21-inch (53cm) cut depth. With its right-hand flush cut, the machine pulverizes or stabilizes all the way to the curb line. The cut is 101 inches (257 cm) wide, perfect for three passes on a 24-foot (7.3 m) wide road. The design of the cutter and housing assure homogeneous mixing to full depth. The machine can upcut as well as downcut, and has four speeds ranging from 88 rpm to 175 rpm. The 56-inch (147cm) diameter (including cutting tools) quick-change drum easily accomplishes any project whether stabilizing, pulverizing or cold recycling. For deep stabilization the drum is set down lower in the housing. That creates the room needed to accommodate the increased amount of material that flows through when cutting deep. When mixing in additives, there’s enough room for effective mixing, and the extra room won’t allow the drum to get overloaded with too much material. For light lift reclamation the cutter moves into closer proximity to the housing and thus produces superior gradation. Position of the drum can be adjusted on the fly.
