Hilti one of many to introduce range of new products at World of Concrete 2010
World of Concrete ran this year from Feb. 1st through the 5th at the Las Vegas Convention Center. At the show, Hilti was one of many companies who introduced a range of new and innovative products for construction pros.
According to Hilti, they've engineered their newest breakers, gas saws and cordless tools based on customer feedback to meet market demand and exceed expectations.
Hilti's latest breakers
Traditionally, according to Hilti, air-powered breakers have dominated the market — customers demand tremendous impact energy, and to date, there hasn’t been electric motor technology that could hit hard enough.
With the launch of the TE 1000-AVR Breaker in August 2009, Hilti claims to have "broken all the rules when it comes to breakers." In its new line of breakers, which includes the new TE 1500-AVR, and the TE 3000-AVR to be released later this year, the company has pioneered brushless motor technology, which effectively eliminates the brush to allow the breaker to get more out of its power supply. These new breakers transfer the additional power into more blows per minute, to efficiently break up floors, slabs or foundations.
However, the company says, all that power doesn’t come at the sacrifice of operator comfort. The company's new line of breakers offers a best-in-class power-to-weight ratio, along with Hilti’s sub-chassis active vibration reduction (AVR) system that dramatically cuts the vibration, allowing operators to work longer and be more productive. Also compatible with the new breakers is the new Hilti TE DRS-B Dust Removal System that reduces cleanup time and captures dust for a better working environment.
The latest gas saws
According to Hilti, reliability and productivity are the two key elements that any operator is looking for out of a gas saw. Historically, gas saws have not been designed to be serviced in the field. If a saw needed to be repaired, contractors would lose valuable uptime by having to take it to a service centre where they were charged for parts and labour.
Because Hilti designs its tools for professional contractors, its engineers asked how they could help contractors stay more productive. The answer: develop a new line of saws that would be more durable and could be serviced in the field. With the introduction of the new Hilti DSH 700 and DSH 900 gas saws, the company’s gas saws now come standard with a cyclone filtration system (no pre-filter) and simple rope replacement for easy maintenance and maximum durability.
According to Hilti, their gas saws also continue to offer the best in class power-to-weight ratio in the industry, resulting in fast cutting speeds and increased productivity. With a simple counter-clockwise starting procedure and primer bulb for fewer pulls, the new gas saws start easily and are simple
to use.
The latest cordless tools
Cordless power tools have always been attractive to contractors because they offer the freedom and flexibility to work virtually anywhere. Battery-operated power tools have been available for decades, and tool manufacturers like Hilti offer industrial-grade high capacity batteries — 14V to 36V — to allow professional contractors to quickly drill, fasten, bolt and cut a variety of materials, like wood, concrete and metal.
Hilti's line of cordless power tools are engineered specifically to increase productivity. The motor and gearing system efficiency allow these Li-ion battery-operated tools to produce more work per charge — this means more energy is transferred directly to the application and the tool is quieter during operation, and produces less heat and less vibration — making it more comfortable for the contractor to operate the tool for extended periods of time.
Also, all Hilti Li-ion batteries are built with onboard computers that are designed to manage the battery’s power supply, known as Cordless Power Care (CPC), which controls the battery’s power through individual cell management. Individual cell management ensures that the charge is getting to the cells that need it most.
The Hilti WSR 18-A CPC reciprocating saw is the newest addition to the Hilti 18-V cordless tool platform. The WSR 18-A is engineered with a high-efficiency motor and eccentric gear, and when combined with Hilti’s proven CPC battery technology, the WSR 18-A performs more applications per charge than other cordless reciprocating saws.
According to Hilti, the new WSR 18-A is the ideal tool for cutting EMT conduits, galvanized pipes, struts, threaded rods, anchor bolts and rebar, as well as cutting form work, plywood, OSB and 2x material. This reciprocating saw excels in creating openings in sheet metal, drywall and cement boards.
Other releases at the World of Concrete show included models DD 350 and DD 500 Coring Systems designed to give construction professionals the power to increase diamond coring productivity, and the DS TS20-E Electric Wall Saw, which features high-frequency motor technology and HTC intelligent control to achieve top cutting performances.
According to Hilti, there is much more to come in 2010.
