Worldwide Power Products announces partnership with Hythane Company to offer OptiBlend bi-fuel solution for diesel engines
Worldwide Power Products (WPP), a power-generation equipment provider to industrial clients worldwide, announced it has licensed the rights to sell Hythane Company's OptiBlend solution, which enables traditional diesel engines to burn a mixture of natural gas and diesel. WPP will offer OptiBlend-equipped diesel engines and generator sets for sale and rental and will also sell retrofitting services to owners of existing diesel generators. WPP's service technicians will be certified to install the conversion kits both at the WWP facility and in the field.
With OptiBlend, standard diesel engines can burn a mixture of up to 70% natural gas and 30% diesel fuel, resulting in considerable savings for the engine's owner. At the current price of natural gas, the cost of the retrofit can be recaptured in fuel savings in less than a year – as little as a few months, in many cases.
“WPP engaged in a comprehensive search to find the bi-fuel technology that offered the most flexibility and best ROI for our customers," said WPP VP of Sales & Engineering Dave Vennie. “OptiBlend is flexible enough to handle the load swings and changing conditions of any environment, including the rigorous demands of drilling rig platforms. OptiBlend has documented to us that their kit is the best offering in the bi-fuel industry."
OptiBlend-equipped engines can use fuel from a variety of sources, including direct intake of by-product natural gas from oil fields and well heads (with pre-treatment), from a traditional gas pipeline or from vaporized LNG (liquid natural gas).
“Equipping diesel engines with OptiBlend not only saves operators on fuel costs; it also gives companies a great, 'green' story to tell the world,” said Vennie. “When they use by-product gas, they are making use of a freely available fuel source that otherwise would have been wasted, so the benefits are even greater.”
