Watch: The evolution of British excavation on display in JCB vintage film
Here's an interesting piece of vintage footage. Around about 1967 or so, JCB released this entry in its Newsfilm series, which starts out discussing the great history of excavation in the United Kingdom including the many miles of rail right-of-way dug by the legendary Navvies. It then pivots to sharing the latest in JCB machines, which, according to the video, can manage the daily output of the Navvies in ten minutes. There are some great shots of British infrastructure work and classic JCB excavators on the job.
