Tadano is bringing what it says is the first fully electric rough-terrain crane to the Japanese market, with the ability to perform crane work and travel efficiently and emissions-free using a lithium-ion battery.
The EVOLT eGR-250N is a 25-tonne crane that fits into Tadano's Green Solutions strategy, which aims to reduce CO2 emissions from Tadano machines by 35 percent through 2030. The long-term goal is full climate neutrality by 2050.
Exclusively available in Japan, the EVOLT eGR-250N seamlessly executes all crane and travel operations using a battery as the power source. It is equipped with two high-output motors that boast a maximum output of 97 kW and a maximum torque of 2,500 N-m, which deliver improved acceleration and smooth running. The design minimizes shock during gear changes, reducing operator stress and ensuring a more comfortable and efficient work experience.
Powering those motors is a 226-kWh efficient lithium-ion battery. A full battery charge enables an average day of crane work and driving in the Japanese construction landscape for versatile productivity. This aids in improving sustainability by significantly reducing the carbon footprint associated with traditional diesel cranes.
Charging is done using the CHAdeMO system for quick charging and AC 200V three-phase commercial power connection for normal charging. This allows crane work to be seamlessly performed while plugged in at the site, ensuring continuous operation without downtime. Quick charging takes approximately 2.5 hours, while normal charging requires approximately 8 hours.
Crane work can be done for approximately five hours along with approximately 42 km of travel on a full charge. For crane work only, the battery can provide approximately 11 hours, and for driving, approximately 70 km.
The EVOLT eGR-250N provides the same lifting and running performance as the conventional GR series. Maximum lifting capacity is 25 tonnes and working radius is 34 metres. Ground lifting height is 44.2 m, and the machine has a maximum speed of 49 km/h.
Optional on the new crane is Lift Visualizer, which uses a suspended load monitoring camera that allows operators to monitor suspended loads directly from above.
