Brent Johnston, chief financial officer at VMAC, bungee jumped from 150 feet over the Nanaimo River at WildPlay Nanaimo for the Toss The Boss fundraiser, benefitting the Nanaimo Brain Injury Society (NBIS).

Thirty local business leaders participated in this year's event, raising over $52,000 to fund programs supporting brain injury survivors, their families, and caregivers. VMAC raised over $3,800 through corporate and coworker donations, contributing to the event's success, and earning the second place title for team fundraising.

"When my team suggested tossing me off a bridge for the Nanaimo Brain Injury Society, I knew I couldn't pass up the opportunity," says Johnston. "The support we received from our coworkers and the community was amazing, and I'm proud to have jumped for such a worthy cause."

Kix Citton, executive director at NBIS, emphasized the importance of the funds raised. "Every donation we receive through Toss The Boss helps us provide vital services, including counselling, housing supports, and advocacy for brain injury survivors and their families. We're incredibly grateful for the community's generosity and for the leadership shown by participants like Brent and VMAC."

Tod Gilbert, president of VMAC jumped for Toss The Boss in 2023 and was keen to pass the torch to Brent for 2024. Already, volunteers are vying for the coveted opportunity to represent VMAC and champion fundraising for NBIS in 2025.
