Coinciding with the celebration of its 50th anniversary in Canada, Kubota Canada Ltd. is unveiling three new compact construction models: the U17-5 zero-tail-swing compact excavator, the KX040-5 compact excavator, and the SVL97-3, its largest compact track loader. These new machines are designed to address the evolving needs of Canadian operators, offering advancements in operator comfort, performance, and technology.

A milestone year for Kubota Canada

As one of the only major OEMs with a standalone Canadian division, Kubota Canada has adapted to local needs with innovations such as cold-weather testing in Timmins, Ontario, and tailored incentive programs.

Andrew Marshall, vice president of sales, marketing, and dealer development at Kubota Canada, highlights the significance of the company's 50th anniversary, emphasizing how it reflects Kubota's steady growth and the strong partnerships it has built with customers and across its dealer network.

Since Kubota entered the Canadian market five decades ago, the company has expanded its product lineup and adapted its offerings to address the unique challenges posed by Canada's diverse industries and geography.

In this spirit, Kubota is rolling out three significant machine introductions in early 2025.

U17-5 compact excavator: a versatile option for restricted job sites

The U17-5 zero-tail swing compact excavator is purpose-built for work in confined areas and focused on operator comfort. Featuring adjustable tracks that retract to 3 feet 3 inches for access through narrow spaces and expand to 4 feet 3 inches for added stability, the U17-5 is a versatile choice for urban and residential job sites.

According to Marshall, demand for compact equipment like the U17-5 is growing, particularly in new subdivisions where limited space equals distinct challenges. These machines are especially popular in the rental market - designed to help operators minimize the risk of damage near retaining walls, fences, or homes. Their user-friendly features also make them suitable for a broad range of users, including contractors and renters with varying levels of expertise.

Operator experience is central to the design of the U17-5. The excavator includes expanded legroom, repositioned joysticks with auxiliary controls, and a semi-suspension seat for improved comfort. Practical features such as a front meter panel and mobile phone holder make it easier for operators to stay focused on the job.

KX040-5 compact excavator: advanced hydraulics and improved visibility

With an advanced hydraulic system, the four-ton KX040-5 compact excavator delivers smoother operation and greater efficiency when using attachments such as breakers or augers. The hydraulic system leverages engine horsepower, enabling operators to handle attachments while maintaining full machine functionality. According to Marshall, this improved hydraulic system allows for smoother operation, making precision work easier and more efficient.

The KX040-5 also prioritizes operator comfort and visibility. The spacious yet streamlined cab offers 20 percent visibility with more glass in the front window and the removal of the roof window slash bars. The redesign also delivers additional head and foot space, a repositioned 7-inch LCD monitor, a back-lit keypad, and optional air suspension seating. Enhanced noise reduction and an upgraded HVAC system create a quieter and more comfortable working environment.

Marshall notes that the new cab design delivers a better operator experience and plays a critical role in helping operators stay alert and productive by improving visibility, reducing noise, and optimizing air movement.

Integrated directly from the factory, the KX040-5 comes equipped with advanced Kubota technology including a keyless start system with up to 10 operator-specific passwords. KubotaNOW telematics, which provides real-time data on hours, fuel levels, and machine location through the KubotaNOW app is also included. LED work lights with a turn-off delay allow operators to safely exit the work area under full illumination, and an optional rear-view camera further improves visibility and operational safety.

The SVL97-3 CTL includes advanced auto-shift technology that automatically adjusts between speeds. Kubota

SVL97-3 compact track loader: power, precision, and a pressurized cabin

The SVL97-3 is Kubota's largest compact track loader to date, designed to deliver better performance and productivity, and streamlined maintenance over earlier generations. Equipped with a 96.4-hp Kubota engine with high torque output, the SVL97-3 includes advanced auto-shift technology that automatically adjusts between speeds — shifting down for maximum traction during turns or under resistance and shifting up for faster travel speeds. The SVL97-3 can reach 8.9 km/h in low gear and 13.5 km/h in high gear. Operators can customize machine responsiveness with three track response settings.

An auto-idling system, standard self-levelling to maintain bucket or pallet fork position, and a 128.5-inch hinge pin height enhance the versatility and productivity of the SVL97-3. The Kubota Shockless Ride system further ensures smooth performance on rough terrain. Routine maintenance is simplified with a swing-out radiator and accessible panels in the loader arm area and chassis, allowing for quick debris cleanouts.

Operator comfort is not neglected in the rollout of the SVL97-3. Its one-piece sealed and pressurized cabin reduces noise and inhibits debris, ensuring a clean and quiet environment. Standard features include a high-capacity HVAC system, front and rear LED lighting, rear-view camera, keyless start with passcode, a self-levelling bucket that maintains its position during lifting and lowering tasks, and a slide-up front door that remains accessible regardless of bucket or loader-arm position.

Marshall notes that Kubota is known for packing a lot of capability into a compact footprint. The SVL97-3 continues that tradition by combining power, precision, and operator comfort.

Built for Canada's unique conditions

The Canadian market has specific needs, from harsh winter conditions to diverse applications across industries such as agriculture, construction, and landscaping. Kubota Canada has addressed these challenges with localized testing and support.

"Every new product introduced by Kubota goes through (rigorous cold-weather testing in) our Timmins facility," says Marshall. "While cold chambers provide some information when you go to an area like Timmons and you really face the harshness of the winters, you get a good sense as to what the equipment will go through in those (Canadian) climates."

Kubota's Canadian presence also means operators can rely on an extensive dealer network, with 135 primary locations across the country, ensuring easy access to parts and service.

According to Marshall, the Kubota goal is to deliver a consistent experience across the country so customers can trust they'll receive the same high level of service and support from coast to coast to coast.

The U17-5 zero-tail swing compact excavator, KX040-5 four-ton compact excavator, and SVL97-3, Kubota's largest compact track loader, will be available at authorized Kubota dealers across Canada this spring.
