Liebherr has expanded its crane offerings with the updated LTM 1120-4.2, featuring the new LICCON3 control system. The 4-axle 120-tonne crane is equipped with the TraXon DynamicPerform oil-cooled starting clutch and new driver assistance systems to increase safety on the road. Liebherr will exhibit the LTM 1120-4.2 mobile crane at bauma in Munich later this year.

Not only will all  new cranes receive the control system, but Liebherr will also upgrade existing models.

LICCON3 control system

The third-generation control system comes equipped with completely new software, a faster database, significantly more memory, and higher computing power.

New hardware components, such as the mobile operating and display unit, have been adopted. The touchscreen function on the large display in the superstructure cab ensures ease of use and comfortability.

In addition, LICCON3 cranes come with telemetry and fleet management. Crane contractors will soon be able to view and evaluate all the relevant data using the MyLiebherr customer portal.

New driver's cabin and crane cab

Improvements to the driver's cabin include a new multifunction steering wheel, a side roller blind on the driver's door, improved instruments and modules, and new displays. Functions like the central locking system with a remote key and the "Coming and Leaving Home" function add convenience.

A new automatic heating and air-conditioning system in both the driver's and operator's cabs ensures comfort in fluctuating temperatures. A sun sensor detects strong sunshine and automatically adjusts the heating settings.

The lighting packages for the crane cab, the superstructure, the rear of the vehicle, the front headlights, and the telescopic boom, as well as the lattice fly jib, can be operated with LEDs.

The LTM 1120-4.2 mobile crane

Similar to the previous model, the LTM 1120-4.2 is on par with 200-tonne class cranes, and its 66-metre telescopic boom is the longest ever to be installed on a 4-axle mobile crane. Its lifting capacity of 9 tonnes on the telescopic boom makes it ideal for erecting tower cranes and radio masts. Lattice extensions enable the 120-tonne crane to achieve hook heights of up to 91 metres and a radius of up to 64 metres.

The compact design of a 4-axle crane makes the LTM 1120.4.2 the ideal choice for applications where there isn't enough room for larger cranes. With its VarioBallast system, the crane's ballast radius can be adjusted between 3.83 and 4.77 metres.

The standard, mechanically swivelling ballast cylinders allow the radius to be easily reduced by 940 mm — ideal for confined spaces. The larger ballast radius increases performance and can reduce costs, as many operations can be carried out with less counterweight, eliminating the need for additional ballast transport.

Innovations built into the new model

In addition to the new crane control and the updated design, the LTM 1120-4.2 also has other technical features that increase efficiency, comfort, and safety. The innovative DynamicPerform clutch module provides almost wear-free starting and maneuvering for the modular ZF TraXon gearbox without overheating because it transmits the engine output through an oil-cooled multi-disc package.

The newly adopted blind spot and moving-off information systems increase driving safety in road traffic. The LTM 1120-4.2 will also use RemoteDrive, which allows the mobile crane to be driven from the outside with wireless remote control — a major benefit on cramped construction sites.
