BOMAG to premiere new 8-foot paver at World of Asphalt/AGG1

BOMAG Americas will launch new products and compaction technology at World of Asphalt/AGG1. The BOMAG exhibit will feature the world premiere of an 8-foot paver built to deliver enough power for highway-class jobs while being manoeuvrable enough for commercial paving projects.

The exhibit also features a new asphalt distributor to expand BOMAG's already established line of paving and asphalt equipment.

World of Asphalt attendees will be the first to get a preview of the new BOMAG CR 820 T-2 rubber track paver. This 8-foot (2.4-metre) paver features a large 10-ton (9.1 tonnes) hopper capacity for more time paving between truck exchanges, a 173-hp (129-kW) diesel engine that delivers enough power to push fully loaded trucks up steep grades, and a design with improved visibility. The new design also features an operating system for each console with easy viewing of critical operating functions, gauges, parameters, and fault messages for troubleshooting on the job. Also, equipped with the Stretch 16 hydraulically extendable screen, the paver will offer variable paving width from 8 to 16 feet (2.4 to 4.9 metres).

Also new is the BOMAG BD 2000 asphalt distributor which features an automatic burner for efficient heating and computer-controlled distribution for a one-person operation. The BD 2000 uses a 2,000-gal (7,570-litre) insulated tank, and its hydraulically extending or retracting spray bar features flat nozzles spaced every 4 inches (102 millimetres) for optimum spray coverage across its 15.7-foot maximum width. The flexible distributor features a main 7.5-foot (2.3-metre) bar that extends hydraulically up to 4.1 feet (1.2 metres) on either side to offer infinitely variable spray widths from 7.5 to 15.7 feet (2.3 to 4.8 metres).

The BOMAG BW 138 AD-5 tandem vibratory roller is designed for paving contractors and municipalities. The 54.3-inch (1,380-millimetre) wide roller now features the ECONOMIZER compaction measurement system. ECONOMIZER alerts the operator to the compaction progress of the soil or asphalt material being compacted, reducing passes, and saving time and money. The system requires no calibration to reliably deliver real-time compaction progress. As the degree of compaction increases, more LED lights on the ECONOMIZER light strip illuminate and indicate when optimum compaction is achieved. It also warns of potential over-compaction to prevent aggregate fracturing as well as allows for the identification of soft spots in the material.

BOMAG's BW 191 AD-5 AM with ROPS roll-over protection on display features the company's ASPHALT MANAGER compaction system with variable amplitude of the front drum. The system enables operators of all skill levels to achieve target compaction. The operator needs only to set the layer thickness, and ASPHALT MANAGER does the rest. The vectoring drum changes vibration from true vertical to true horizontal as asphalt stiffness increases to avoid over- and under-compaction which saves time and fuel and reduces wear on the machine.
