RodRadar’s real-time radar detection technology to be distributed by SITECH Germany

RodRadar developed Live Dig Radar (LDR), a real-time underground utility strike avoidance technology embedded in excavation equipment, and has now entered a strategic distribution agreement with , a provider of construction technology solutions in Germany. The collaboration brings advancements to excavation safety, eliminating blind digging, costly damages, and project delays. 

Excavation strikes cause costly damages

SITECH is now responsible for the distribution of this solution in Germany and Austria. Each year, Germany reports approximately 100,000 damage incidents to underground utility infrastructure with excavation machinery responsible for nearly 80 percent of these strikes. 

Austria experiences around 34,000 cable and pipeline strikes annually, leading to costly repairs, project stoppages, and safety hazards. Industry estimates suggest that in Germany alone, insurers pay approximately €500 million (USD 537.6) annually for excavation-related damages. When considering direct, indirect, and societal impacts, such as downtime, legal claims, infrastructure disruptions, and environmental consequences, the total economic costs for the German industry reach billions. 

The main factors contributing to the incidents are outdated, incomplete, or unreliable data and human error. SITECH's collaboration with RodRadar will introduce a next-generation excavation solution, utilizing advanced radar and AI technology to create automatic alerts to operators about underground hazards without needing offline expert analysis.
