Low cost, towed compaction roller comes in two widths
Double D Manufacturing’s new Roll-N-Go 60 is a hydraulically lifted compaction roller equipped with an optional hydraulic 12-foot grader blade. These compacting rollers can be pulled behind a larger agriculture type tractor (rubber tire or track type). This 60-inch roller weighs, depending upon ballast, approximately 38,000 pounds when fully loaded. It delivers in excess of 900 pounds per square inch compacted surface area. Recent field tests have shown that Double D’s Roll-N-Go products have proven effective when high moisture materials are encountered allowing contractors to run longer, without aerating soils, over the self-propelled roller.
Also available from Double D is a 48-inch hydraulically lifted double-drum roller designed to be pulled in conjunction with Double D’s Leveling Scraper or individually. According to Danny Dumey, senior designer of these units, “We build them to meet military specifications. These rollers are designed to run fast and to be more efficient than self-propelled compactors.” Double D compaction rollers sell for approximately one-sixth the cost of a self-propelled roller, yet deliver more pounds per square inch of compacting effort. Their mobility is also enhanced with the hydraulic lift, and unlike self-propelled units, they can be transported at speeds up to 25 mph versus hauling by truck.
Dealers have noted that many of their customers look to this as a low cost solution to a potentially costly situation. “Using tractors that they already have provides our customers with large cost savings with the Double D Roll-N-Go product”, said Dumey.
