xwave, a leading integrator of interoperable electronic health records, is currently involved in four provincial iEHR initiatives in Canada. Drawing from 30 years of systems integration experience and a 300 person healthcare consulting practice, the company has won two ITAC-Health awards: Company of the Year (2006) and Project Implementation Team of the Year (2008). As a systems integrator, xwave offers healthcare providers distinct advantages such as ‘vendor-agnostic’ solution development – helping ensure the right products are chosen for the task at hand – and superior project management. Systems integrators by definition tend to collaborate with a diverse range of vendor and client stake-holders. This capability is especially helpful in managing implementations that typically encompass wide-ranging healthcare systems and multiple points of care. In New Brunswick, for example, xwave is working with various product vendors to integrate four components within the province’s One Patient One Record System. The company is also managing the integration of several systems within Nova Scotia’s Secure Health Access Record (SHARE). In Québec, xwave is leading Canada’s largest iEHR implementation, the Dossier de santé du Québec (DSQ), an initiative that will connect tens of thousands of health practitioners province-wide and help enhance care for over seven million citizens.
