In January, held in conjunction with the Landscape Congress show in Toronto, Landscape Ontario held their 37th Annual "Awards of Excellence Ceremony & President's Reception, Construction, Maintenance and Design Programs."

The annual Landscape Ontario Awards of Excellence Ceremony honours the top landscape contractors, designers and maintenance contractors in the Ontario horticulture industry.

Started in 1973, Landscape Ontario Horticultural Trades Association (LOHTA) is a vibrant association representing over 2000 horticultural professionals. Members include landscape, maintenance and snow management contractors, landscape designers, lawn care operators, garden centre owners, arborists, nursery growers, interior landscapers, and irrigation and landscape lighting contractors.

LOHTA members have a commitment to maintain confidence and trust in the profession of horticulture and to encourage and support education and research within the horticultural field. LOHTA also helps fulfill its pledge to elevate the green industry and enhance our environment through various public events like Canada Blooms, and participation in local home shows and community events. Members of LOHTA's nine regional chapters donated time and materials worth over $500,000 last year through projects to green their communities.

Landscape Ontario has also formed numerous relationships with other organizations, associations, municipalities and educational institutions who share the common goal to promote the benefits of landscaping and horticulture. Many of these organizations can be found in the links section of their website.

This year's Landscape Congress saw 12,960 visitors, a 22% increase over 2009 (partly due to three days of exemplary weather).  There were 613 vendors, also an increase compared to 2009, and the show featured over 100 new and "green" products. Next year's Congress runs January 11 - 13, 2011, at the Toronto Congress Centre. locongress.com
