Mack Trucks and Terex partner to deliver zero-emissions bucket truck
The Mack chassis and Terex aerial device combine to create a sustainable solution for the electric utility industry

Mack Trucks announced its entry into the specialized utility segment with the Mack MD and Terex Utilities next-generation fully-electric bucket truck. The innovative solution will be showcased at NTEA Work Truck Week at the Indiana Convention Center in Indianapolis.
The new partnership combines Mack's industry-leading electric MD7 chassis with Terex's Optima HR55 aerial device powered by the HyPower SmartPTO, delivering more payload capacity and range for utility fleet operations.
Specifications on the Mack and Terex fully electric bucket truck
Preliminary testing revealed the Terex all-electric bucket truck with the Mack MD7 electric chassis has up to 1.5 times enhanced range capabilities compared to other Class 6/7 medium-duty electric chassis bucket trucks, with double the payload capacity on the rear axle. The Terex aerial device operates independently of the Mack MD7 electric chassis, which helps to ease range anxiety and allows utility crews to operate the boom and outriggers for a normal workday without taking charge away from the chassis.
This advancement directly addresses previous challenges in the utility sector, where the combined weight of aerial equipment and battery systems often presents operational limitations.
The all-electric truck is also equipped with the cutting-edge 3rd Eye digital platform, integrating advanced camera systems, AI, and industry-leading technology to maximize safety and productivity. With up to six HD cameras displayed on a spacious 7-inch in-cab monitor, the system provides a complete, real-time view of the vehicle's surroundings, significantly reducing blind spots when reversing, changing lanes, or operating in tight or high-traffic areas.
"This electric bucket truck represents the next natural step in our commitment to sustainable transportation solutions," said George Fotopoulos, vice president of E-mobility at Mack Trucks. "Our lightweight electric chassis provides the capability to handle more demanding applications, and when combined with Terex's expertise in utility equipment, we're delivering a solution that pushes the boundaries of what's possible in zero tailpipe emissions utility vehicles."
Terex builds on a solid foundation of electric bucket trucks
Terex introduced the industry's first all-electric bucket truck in 2022, with an Optima 55-foot aerial mounted on an International eMV. Dozens of Terex all-electric bucket trucks are being used by utility crews throughout North America. The new Mack all-electric unit provides another option for electric utility contractors looking for a zero-emissions solution. A limited supply of these trucks will be available in 2025, with a standard delivery of 12–18 months.
"Our collaboration with Mack Trucks represents continued movement forward in zero tailpipe emissions utility vehicles," said Tyler Schwingler, product marketing manager at Terex Utilities. "By combining our industry-leading Optima HR55 aerial device with Mack's innovative MDe7 chassis, we're providing utility companies with a solution that doesn't compromise on performance or capability while meeting their sustainability goals."
