Registration Now Open for AMTA Professional Truck Driving Championship held June 21
Registrations are now being taken for the 2014 Alberta Professional Truck Driving Championship (June 21, Edmonton). The deadline to register is June 18.
The competition, hosted by Alberta Motor Transport Association, tests drivers on many levels including their skill behind the wheel, knowledge of safety rules and regulations, and ability to spot safety hazards.
“The championship is a great incentive for professional truck drivers to operate safely, because they must be collision-free for at least one year prior to the competition,” says AMTA president and CEO Richard Warnock, “Many of the competitors have millions of accident-free driving miles to their credit.”
The championship kicks off with a written exam in the morning, followed by a pre-trip inspection and field course challenge later in the day. The pre-trip vehicle inspection challenges drivers to find planted defects and drive a field course that includes simulates the everyday skills of manoeuvring, cornering and judging distance on an obstacle course.
The event concludes the same evening with an awards dinner where participant’s accomplishments are celebrated. Finalists in each of five categories move on to compete at the National Truck Driving Championships which will be held in Esterel, Quebec later this year.
Sponsorship opportunities are also available for organizations who are seeking to be aligned with safety minded commercial drivers and fleets.
All of these elements make for a very exciting event for drivers and their families, as well as for company management and VIP guests.
Registrations close June 18. More information (for drivers and sponsors):
